Hanover Receives RACP Grant – Klunk Announces Grant to Revitalize Downtown Hanover<\/p>\n
HANOVER, PA \u2013<\/p>\n
A historic downtown Hanover building located at 34 Frederick St. and known as the Montgomery Ward Building received a $1.4 million grant for redevelopment through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP), Rep. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) announced today.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis latest renovation project will provide much-needed updates to a long-blighted building in our downtown core. The success of this project will be a catalyst for redevelopment in our community, showing the promise for the future of downtown Hanover.\u201d Klunk said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe appreciate the governor recognizing what we have known for some time \u2013 the potential for this project to spur economic development in the Hanover area.\u201d Klunk said. \u201cI was pleased to work with Sen. Rich Alloway (R-33) and officials from the Borough of Hanover, Main Street Hanover and the Redevelopment Authority of York County in securing this funding.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a great example of what can happen when state and local officials work together toward community economic development,\u201d Alloway said.<\/p>\n
The blighted 34 Frederick St. will be renovated into a mixed-use property. The first floor is to be completely transformed to house an upscale restaurant, while the second floor will become 14 market-rate housing units. The alley beside the building will be vacated by the borough to allow for al fresco seating and exterior beautification of a block that is under-occupied and in desperate need of investment.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe redevelopment of this building fits perfectly with the ongoing efforts to revitalize and improve downtown Hanover. This project will bring a much-needed boost to the local economy, and will spur additional investments in downtown Hanover,\u201d said Main Street Hanover Manager Justine Trucksess. \u201cUpdates to the Montgomery Ward Building will also help to attract new residents, businesses, and visitors to the area.\u201d<\/p>\n
Michael Bowersox, Hanover Borough manager, noted his appreciation for this investment saying, \u201cWe will certainly make good use of this money for the residents of Hanover. We look forward to the positive impacts this, and other projects will have on our downtown for decades to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
RACP grants are administrated through the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.<\/p>\n
